How to get an appointment

Appointment requests need to be made by filling in our online form. Our GPs will review your information and offer you an appointment or information. You may be sent a text message with a link so you can choose a date, time, and location that works best for you. If you are offered an appointment, it may be in person (face to face) or it may take place on the telephone. You can choose to have an appointment at any Nexus Health Group GP surgery.

You can submit an online request form from 7am to 4pm each day. You will find the our online form by clicking here. You can also find the form on the NHS app.

If you are unable, or do not wish to complete the form online:

  • You can telephone our Patient Access Hub on 0203 302 3007 who will complete the online form for you.
  • You can visit your GP Practice and the reception team can complete the form for you.

If you have a dental problem (toothache, gum problems etc) please click here for information.

Our patients have access to weekend and evening appointments provided by our PCN/QHS. Click here for information about evening and weekend appointments provided by our local enhanced access service

Do you need a chaperone?

We are committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is being followed, and that the safety of everyone is a high priority. You are entitled to have a formal chaperone join you for any consultation, examination or procedure. This will be a trained member of our staff. Please let us know when you request an appointment if you would like a chaperone to join you for your appointment. You are also welcome to have a family member or friend accompany you for your appointment if you wish however this is not a formal chaperone. Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.

Help without an appointment

You may be able to get what you need without booking an appointment.

  • If you need a repeat prescription, you can ask you pharmacy to order this for you. You can also request via the NHS app.
  • You can self-refer yourself to a number of services in Southwark including ante-natal (when you are having a baby), physiotherapy, foot health, talking therapies and sexual health services. Please see our self-referrals page.

What to expect at your appointment

If you are offered an appointment, you will be matched with the most appropriate person from our clinical team. You may be offered:

  • A face to face appoinment at one of our nine GP practices.
  • A telephone consultation
  • Advice on using the NHS app if you need a repeat prescription or other service that can be done without an appointment.

Our appointments last for 10 minutes. This means there is usually not enough time to discuss more than one issue. To be fair to everyone who is waiting to be seen, you may be asked to book another appointment if you run out of time, or if you have multiple issues to discuss. If you think you may need a longer appointment, please include this in your appointment request.

As well as offering appointments, our team can advise on local NHS and community services and self-care options that you can access without needing to see your GP first.

  • Our team will make sure you see or speak to the right person if you need an appointment.
  • Our team might give you details about other services that might help you with your symptoms like the local pharmacist, dentists or appointments at our local Extended Primary Care Service.
  • They are also aware of services that you can self-refer to without having to see someone at the practice, such as antenatal care, physio or podiatry. You can find self-referral information on the Nexus website.
  • You might be asking about other types of support and the receptionist can give you details about local community services for example organisations that have activities and support for the older person or families.

The team who answers the telephone are not able to make medical assessments. They are bound to respect your confidentiality in exactly the same way that GPs or other members of our clinical team are. You do not have to say what your symptoms are if you don’t want to, but if you do it might get you the help and information that you need more easily and quickly. After hearing what services are available to you, you may prefer to still see one of the team. This information is provided for you to make a choice.

Accountable/Named GP

All patients will be assigned a named GP when they register with us. We know that some patients will want their named GP to be a particular doctor. In these cases, we will make reasonable effort to accomdate this request. Where this is not possible, an explanation will be offered to the patient.

Nexus Health Group patients can be seen at any Nexus GP pracitce, and appointments will be with the most approiptate clinican from our multidisplinary team.
